To Dwell: to reside; to live in a given condition, as in, “to dwell in happiness”. What a beautiful word; we do not just live in our homes, we dwell there. Come with me to visit my friends in their homes in the new series called “Real Women*Real Spaces”. These are regular women, but by no means ordinary! I want to capture them in the rooms they love, in the homes where they dwell in happiness…and in a style unique to each.

Today we will meet Barbara…she and her husband are truly talented do-it-yourselfers.  They update their home, room by room, side by side, which they find so enjoyable and rewarding.  We will focus on their latest project, the Formal Dinning Room.

Barbara’s inspiration for color was the painting by Vermeer, “The Pearl”.  She chose Benjamin Moore’s “Chocolate Sundae” for the walls. The unique design of the window treatments she adapted from a photo in a magazine, and had them made in pale blue silk. A tin ceiling was a wonderful addition, and a great idea for an older home (which had a sketchy ceiling at best). Check out the beautiful built-in hutch that Barbara’s husband made!

The lovely Barbara

The chandelier is original to the house, but Barbara replaced the too small crystals with the larger ones.  The wainscot looks as if it was always there, but alas, was added in the renovation. This Circa 1900 home is being lovingly transformed by it’s owners, and enjoyed by all who enter it.

Thank You Barbara
